World Drama Day today

Theatre activists all over the world observe March 27 as World Drama Day. The celebration was first held in Vienna in 1961 when the International Theatre Institute declared March 27 as the World Drama Day.
From 1962 onwards this day has been observed all over the world. Bangladesh, however, has celebrated this day since 1984.

To mark this day in the country, the Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation and Bangladesh Centre of International Theatre Institute Bangladesh have jointly arranged a programme at 6 pm at the National Theatre Stage, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Central Shaheed Minar turns festive

Independence Day was celebrated with gaiety all over the country. Among the many functions that were held to observe this day was a three-day long festival, organised by the Sommilito Sangskritik Jote at the Central Shaheed Minar premises. The programme concluded on March 26.
The programme included dances by Khela Ghor Ashor and a play by Kanon Children’s Theatre on the second day. The festival also showcased several songs by solo artistes Fakir Alamgir, Moloy Kumar Ganguli, Laisa Ahmed Lisa and Mahbubul Haider among others. The poetry recitals of Rezina Lina, and Iqbal Khurshid touched a responsive chord in the audience.

The second part of the programme included two plays, Borno chora from Moitri theatre, written by Momotaj Uuddin Ahmed and Mr Dengu from Ontorongo theatre, written by Aminul Islam. The programme was hosted by member secretary of Ujjapon Committee Maskur A Sattar.

Similar activities by Sommilito Sangskritik Jote have been organised since 1985. The organisation consists of around 350 sister organisations in Dhaka city and over 3,500 all over the country.

The programme mirrored our rich Bangalee heritage and should go a long way in drawing the younger generations into the cultural fold.

Victory Comes Again :)

Bangladesh secured their third straight win against Kenya, and in so doing won the four-match series, but it was their least convincing performance to date, and for a time Kenya even threatened to pull off a remarkable comeback after being down and out halfway through their innings.

Though once it was not sure that it is happenning, when Bangladesh was 65 for 4.Shahriar Nafees steadied the ship, adding 70 for the fifth wicket with Mohammad Rafique, who chipped in with a 33-ball 31.

As a result Bangladesh get the Series.

Bangladesh v Kenya – A Brief History

Bangladesh VS Kenya
The two newest diners at cricket’s top table (although Kenya’s status was revised in 2005) have only met on a handful of occasions, but it is Kenya who have come out on top nearly every time.

Their last meeting, not accorded full ODI status, came in the final of the ICC Trophy in 1996-97 when Bangladesh won a final spread over two days by two wickets using the D/L method – they chased 166 in 25 overs after Kenya posted 241 for 7 in their 50 overs, with Steve Tikolo, who made a brilliant 147, ending up on the losing side. Later that year Kenya won both meetings during the President’s Cup in Nairobi (an event won by Zimbabwe who beat the hosts in the final).

In 1998, Bangladesh scored an emphatic six-wicket win in the group stage of the Coca-Cola tri-series in India, but Kenya gained revenge in the second meeting, and pipped Bangladesh into the final by virtue of a shock win over hosts, and eventual winners, India.

In 1998-99 Kenya turned party-poopers when they and Zimbabwe made it through to the final of the tri-nation Meril International tournament in Dhaka, Kenya twice beating the hosts by convincing margins thanks to hundreds from Tikolo and Kennedy Otieno.

The most recent meeting came at the 2003 World Cup, and Kenya, en route to the semi-finals, hammered a shambolic Bangladesh side which had already been beaten by Canada. It triggered a clear-out and was a watershed. Since then, little has gone right for Kenya, while Bangladesh have shown steady improvement.
